Devon School of Navigation
We are a small shorebased RYA Training Centre run by an experienced principal. Our base is in Stokenham just off the A379, about five miles from Kingsbridge, nine from Salcombe and ten from Dartmouth.
Andy Thomson, our principal has been sailing most of his life. He and his wife currently own an Oyster Heritage 37.
He is an RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Instructor and has been teaching afloat and ashore since 1996. Before starting the Devon School of Navigation he ran a correspondence school and a practical sail training school.
Andy has now stopped practical teaching but continues to teach all RYA shorebased courses apart from First Aid. He teaches all courses himself.
Andy is the Station Manager for the National Coastwatch Institution lookout at Prawle Point. He also lectures and teaches for Kingsbridge Estuary Boat Club and was a member of Salcombe Harbour Board from 2012 till he stood down in 2018.
